Heatwave warnings issued for millions of Aussies
Temperatures in western Sydney are expected to soar into the mid-30s, with humidity making it feel even hotter.
Hundreds are expected to flock to Penrith Beach’s newly opened ‘Pondi’ today.
Despite the heat, Sydney also faces summer rain and a possible storm today, although severe weather warnings issued earlier have been lifted.
Conditions are expected to ease tomorrow, with temperatures dropping back into the high 20s and a chance of rain continuing.
However, the heat wave will continue in the northern part of the state until Monday.
Large parts of Queensland will also be hot this weekend, with the heat wave moving east next week, covering Brisbane and the southeast.
Temperatures are expected to peak around 40 degrees in parts of the affected area, with overnight temperatures remaining around 30 degrees.
Brisbane faces a high of 35 degrees on Sunday and temperatures in the low 30s throughout next week, along with a chance of rain.
Heatwave warnings are also in place for South Australia and Western Australia, although Perth and Adelaide will be spared the worst of it.
Adelaide has been subject to a heat wave warning in recent days, but those conditions are moving north over the weekend.
