Matildas legend Clare Polkinghorne bids emotional final farewell in 6-0 win over Taiwan
An experimental Matildas line-up beat Taiwan 6-0 in Geelong to end their year on top and give a glimpse of the future in retired great Clare Polkinghorne’s final game.
In what is likely to be interim coach Tom Sermani’s last game in charge, in-form attacking midfielder Tameka Yallop featured in front of 30,097 fans at GMHBA Stadium.
A permanent coach is likely to be in place when the Matildas next play at the SheBelieves Cup in February against Japan, the United States and Colombia.

On her starting debut, Leah Davidson drew first blood, scoring her first goal with a superb header in the sixth minute, before Yallop scored five minutes later, before Emily Gilnick equalized in the 40th minute.
Remi Siemsen brilliantly set up Michel Heyman for a goal in the 56th minute.
Tash Prior headed home his second goal in two games in the 73rd minute, and Sharn Fryer netted a sixth home five minutes later.
With a host of big names missing, Sermani made four changes to his side that won 3-1 in Melbourne.
Retiring great Polkinghorne, who had a celebratory match against Brazil in Brisbane, started his record 169th and final game.
Polkinghorne left the pitch for the last time to a standing ovation in the 64th minute, replaced by Jessica Nash.
Bryleeh Henry and Davidson made their debuts as starters.
Winona Heatley started and impressed on the left side of a back three with her willingness to move the ball aggressively, while Emily van Egmond (two assists) showed her creativity.
Australia took the lead when, following a corner, Yallop cut the ball back to van Egmond, who slotted a superb ball into the box.
Davidson bent and fired a header into the top corner.
Just minutes later, Yallop latched on to a long ball from goalkeeper Wang Yu-Ting, tapped it in with his right before unleashing a lovely, sliding left-footed strike into the far bottom corner.
Play was stopped for about half an hour when Ting Chia-Ying was carried off on a stretcher with a serious knee injury.
In the 40th minute, Yallop lifted a great ball to the head of Gilnik, who turned in his first international goal since the Tokyo Olympics.
Gilnik looked to be in an ambush, but without VAR in the friendlies, the goal stood.
Siemsen scored the fourth goal when he pinched the ball, danced around several defenders, then cut it back for Heyman to head home.
Teenage goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln, 19, made her debut when she replaced Mackenzie Arnold shortly afterwards.
Laura Hughes also received her first hat.
The Matildas completed the rout when Prior stepped in to head home van Egmond’s free-kick, before Heatley fired a long-range ball to Fryer, who beat his defender and beat the keeper.
